How to Play Word Association Over Text
- One player starts by texting a single word. Pick something broad like "ocean" or "pizza" to get things rolling.
- The other player immediately replies with the first word that pops into their head. Don't overthink it — speed is the whole point.
- Keep going back and forth, each person replying with one word connected to the previous one. The chain should flow naturally.
- A round ends when someone repeats a word already used, takes longer than 30 seconds, or says something with zero connection to the previous word.
Rules
- One word per message only. No phrases, no sentences, no hyphenated workarounds.
- Your word must have a clear connection to the previous word. If challenged, you have to explain it.
- No repeating words that have already been used in the current round.
- Reply within 30 seconds. Overthinking defeats the purpose of the game.
- Proper nouns are allowed, but both players should agree on this before starting.

Tips & Variations
- Try "Category Lock" where all words must relate to a specific category like food, movies, or animals.
- Play "Opposite Day" where you have to reply with the opposite or contrasting word instead of an associated one.
- Keep a running score across multiple rounds. First to lose 5 rounds buys coffee.
- The best chains happen when you don't think at all. Your gut reaction is almost always funnier than a calculated answer.
